Repo man charged with menacing

LORAIN — A Vermilion repo man was arrested on menacing charges after trying to repossess a car, police said.

Steven Wilson, 35, who works for Iron City Recovery, was trying to repossess a vehicle Monday afternoon when he showed up at the workplace of a 36-year-old Lorain woman, went inside and “screamed” at her about the vehicle. After that, police said, he sat in the parking lot until she was done with work, tried to block her vehicle from leaving and then tried to follow her home, “driving erratically” in order to keep up with her, according to a police report.

The listed owner was not driving the vehicle Wilson was trying to repossess, police said. The woman told Wilson that her daughter had the car and was making the payments and that it would be turned in the following day, but Wilson continued to follow the woman, making her too afraid to go home or stop for gas, police said.

The woman finally pulled into the Lorain Police Department parking lot and called for help, police said, adding that Wilson blocked her car there, too.

When police explained to Wilson his actions were against the law, Wilson said he intended to follow the woman to work the following day and follow her home again and told police to “do what you have to do.”

Wilson was arrested and charged with menacing by stalking.
