Repo attempt leads to pursuit, arrest

SILVERTON – The repossession agent presented Charles Alexander with a problem: his car was being repossessed.

Alexander had a solution – feign a need to get personal items from the car and instead, drive away with the vehicle.

That’s what Alexander, 41, allegedly did Saturday night, according to Silverton Police.

The incident happened at 8:42 p.m. in the 4000 block of Diehl Avenue when, according to a police report, a repossession company sent two representatives to retrieve Alexander’s car, a 1998 Lincoln Navigator.

Alexander became “irate,” the report said, but asked to retrieve some of his property from the car.

He then jumped in the driver’s seat and kicked the car in reverse even though it was already hoisted onto a tow truck, police said. In the process, Alexander hit the owner of the repossession service.

The car was tracked by GPS and Alexander was arrested about 30 minutes later, a half mile away in the 6600 block of Highland Ave.

He was charged with attempted vehicular assault and failure to stop after an accident.

Alexander is scheduled for an arraignment Monday morning in Hamilton County Court.
