MESA, AZ– Police arrested a man after an altercation led to a victim being pistol-whipped outside a Mesa restaurant Friday.
Mesa Police Sgt. Ed Wessing said the victim was apparently trying to repossess a vehicle outside a Macaroni Grill near Baseline Road and Stapley Drive around 2:30 p.m.
The suspect was reportedly walking up to his vehicle and saw a man near it.
He apparently thought he was being robbed and approached the man near his vehicle where an altercation took place, according to Wessing.
Wessing said the suspect allegedly the struck the repossession man with a pistol and the weapon discharged.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with a cut to his head, Wessing said.
The owner of the vehicle drove off, but officers caught up with him near the U.S. 60 and Country Club Drive where he was arrested, Wessing said.
He reportedly claimed he didn’t know the man was repossessing his vehicle.
