A hairstylist who was upset that her Kia Optima was being repossessed lit the car on fire Tuesday, Fontana police said.
A repo man came to the beauty parlor that Treva Townsend worked at about 9 a.m. to tow her car away. But first, he allowed the 41-year-old Upland woman to retrieve her personal belongings from the Kia.
“She decided to start a fire in it,” said Fontana police Sgt. Jeff Decker. “When the repo man sees smoke, he opens the door and the car goes up in flames.”
No one was injured in the blaze.
It appears Townsend used a lighter to ignite the bottom of the driver’s seat, said San Bernardino County Fire spokeswoman Tracey Martinez.
Townsend was arrested on suspicion of arson.
