Embracing New Concepts in the Recovery Industry
By Susan Marston

As a recovery professional, I often talk about how the industry has evolved over the past two decades. I haven’t seen a lot of positive changes, but I’ve seen enough to help me stay in the business. The existing sales model forwarding companies and auction houses have sold to the lenders has negatively impacted our industry by reducing it to being viewed as a commodity business. This has been harmful to the growth of our industry and detrimental to the survival of recovery agents’ businesses. I’ve commiserated with and listened to my fellow recovery agents speak of the countless ways the forwarding model has been harmful – to our industry, to them and to me. So, what I’m about to say may come as a surprise. …more…

Do Debtors Know The Repossession Laws Better Than You?
By Scott Deckling

With the advent of  the continuous changes within our industry it is vital that repossession company owners ensure that all the Field Agents that work for  them are completely knowledgeable  with the Repossession Laws within the States that you conduct your business.

The old saying ..”Knowledge is Power….” supports all that we do within our daily lives, but even more so when you are trying to earn a living.  The more knowledgeable the Field Agents are, the more repossessions they will have. …more…

By Susan Marston

A recent discussion on a repossession web site involved the use of badges during a repossession. A review of 2007 Appeals Court decision may add some light to this discussion.

Repossessor was hired to repossess a silver Pontiac Grand Prix from Debtor. Debtor dated a woman named Jessie. Jessie ‘s parents were divorced, and Jessie had at times in the past three years lived with her mother, although she and Debtor were staying with Jessie ‘s father at the time of the attempted repossession. …more…

Who Said That You Are Judge And Jury To Those That Wish To Join The Ranks Of Repossession Company Owners… Yes The ‘Newbies’
By Susan Marston

There seems to be an aversion within the repossession industry from many within it to help people who are interested in either working in it or starting their own company.  I have been told by many about this, and I have also read many comments from those that think they know it all, to those that may not know much about  it, that they should go find a job elsewhere.

Whether you like it or not, just because negative comments are thrown at these people, it does not deter them to begin working in the industry, irrespective of capacity.  And often many of these inexperienced and ill-prepared people turn out to be the very people who ‘cowboy’ our industry. …more…
