Denton County sheriff’s deputies arrested six men and impounded five tow trucks after determining they were trying to repossess a number of vehicles from a company without a court order Friday night.
According to a sheriff’s report, a woman called about 7:30 p.m. from the 2700 block of Warshun Road near FM428 and Green Valley Circle. She said numerous tow trucks had illegally entered the property of a business there and were taking several pickups.
Sheriff’s deputies responded and found four tow trucks from a Grayson County towing company lined up along the road ready to leave and a fifth tow truck loading a fifth pickup.
The deputy asked for the company’s legal documents. One of the drivers said the company had civil documents allowing them to remove the trucks. But the company had not obtained a court order, according to the sheriff’s report, voiding the civil documents.
One woman told the deputies that she saw the trucks entering the property and rode her horse over to stop them. She blocked the road on her horse, she said, and the drivers yelled and cursed at her.
Then they drove to another gate, broke off the lock and exited the property before being apprehended by the deputies.
Another woman said she owns the company, which is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. She said a representative of the towing company came to the business earlier in the day, saying he had documents to remove “about 40” vehicles. She told him to get off her property, she said, and he left saying he would be back.
The owner said she parked a truck across the driveway to block the entrance where the men entered but they moved it to get onto her property. The deputy noted there were “no trespassing” signs on every gate.
Each of the six men was charged with five counts of burglary of a vehicle and criminal trespass. The deputies seized all five tow trucks, and on Monday they were still impounded.
